Step 1: Six-Color Duct Tape Rose

This is a six color duct tape rose. It is very easy to make, and you can make variants of this with less colors. If you have only two or three types of duct tape, that is no problem. Just follow these steps, and you can get what you desire.

This will take you anywhere from one hour to many more! Even if you don't get the result you were looking for keep trying! This was my second time making one of these, and I have made about 50-70 duct tape roses altogether.

This is the finished product of a six-color duct tape rose I made.

Make-to Learn Youth Contest Entry

1. I made a six color duct tape rose. I made it with duct tape. I used scissors to cut the tape, and a wooden dowel to make the stem.

2. I first started making these for my mom on mothers day. I first started with just red, and later expanded. The rose is all my design, with a little inspiration from the duct tape brand.

3. I made this creation at home for fun. I love making crafts like this to improve my lifestyle. I have made roses, ties, sandals, and many other duct tape related products. I also enjoy making paracord bracelets to wear.

4. I learned that perfection takes a while. I ruined one rose and about half a roll of duct tape before I got it exactly how I wanted it. Despite all this, I was proud of the final creation. I have made another one before this Instructable, to give to my grandmother. I decided to share my knowledge and made this one.

Please vote for this as I have many more projects I will be doing. Thanks!

Step 2: Step One: Materials

Materials:

Six different duct tape colors. (I used green, blue, purple, pink, orange and yellow.)
Scissors/ cutting tool like a knife
Optional is a pencil, or a 1/8 inch wooden dowel (Not shown in picture.)

THIS WILL COST ABOUT $20 if you use six colors. I got my duct tape at Wal-Mart for $3.47 a roll. It will cost about the same for you.
You can use less colors to save money, or more colors (not recommended unless you are an expert).

You can use other colors if you like, and you don't necessarily need a pencil, or scissors. I would recommend a dowel, as they are lighter, and you can give them to people to sell or just as gifts. I would use scissors as they give you a nice clean cut of duct tape. A knife will do the same, but BEWARE, they can give you nasty cuts. I have cut myself a few times with them. If you are doing this, please ask an adult BEFORE you start. I do not want to get sued over this.

Step 3: Step Two: The Stem

This is purely just DUCT TAPE! If you wish to, you can just avoid this step by wrapping a pencil or dowel in duct tape as shown. This step is purely just duct tape as this is a duct tape rose and not a wood and duct tape rose. I added picture numbers in the steps if you have any questions about what to do.

Cut a strip of duct tape about 8 inches long. (Pic 1) It is easier to roll the sticky side up into a tube around the pencil or dowel. It is also really hard to get it just right, so I suggest you cut it into three parts. (Pic 3)Roll the tape sticky side up all the way. (Pic 4) Repeat with the other rolls, so you have three rolls of tape around the pencil or dowel. (Pic 5) Cut another roll of 8 inch duct tape and wrap it around the tape already on the roll. (Pic 6) Then pull off the roll of tape, and now you have a stem for your rose. (Pic 7)

Step 4: Step Three: The Process

I started with pink, but you can use any color to start with. I usually cut my strips of "pedals" about 2 inches long.
You make one fold of the duct tape, one corner inwards. (Pic 2) You then fold the opposite side down. (Pic 3) This is one pedal. Simple right? Then you take the pedal and wrap it across the stem. (Pic 4) Repeat with the other colors until you have it all wrapped up. (Pic 8)

Here is some advice!
Try to wrap the rose in a spiraling pattern as it helps to get that circular shape you want. I wrapped mine in a counter-clockwise position just because it looked good. You can wrap it the other way if you choose. I wrapped mine first in one pedal (Pic 9), then one again, then another one, then I added two pedals. This will make the rose seem to spiral outwards, and give it a fuller look, than just a spiraling pattern. I hope this helps you to make this beautiful creation!

Step 5: Step Four: The Product

Here is the rose almost finished! (Pic 1) Just cut more pedals and placed them on the stem. In (Pic 2), I added rows of 2 and three to the stem to make it fuller. That is what I was talking about earlier.

The Final Step!
This is easy. All you need to do is make 2 pedals out of green. You just wrap it up on the stem (Pic 4).

TAA-DAA!!! You are finished. You can also make variants of this with less or more colors. I made one with 8 colors. It was just like this, but took a looooong time (5 hours). This will make a great gift to your mom, dad, sibling, or loved one.

The End, thanks for reading!!! If you have any questions, just ask, I'll be glad to help you out.
