Step 1: Shrinky Dink Necklace

Creative jewelry perfect for any occasion, season, or holiday.

Step 2: Materials

You will need;

~Scissors
~An assortment of well-sharpened colored pencils
~A black colored pencil
~Hole punch
~Oven
~Plastic shrink paper
~A design to trace unless you're gonna freehand it, which is quite difficult.
~Either string, wire, or yarn.
~Baking pan

Step 3: Choosing a design

Begin by choosing your design. You can get a book of designs by purchasing The Shrinky Dinks Book , or printing patterns off the Internet. If printing off the Internet, type in what you want then "Clipart". For example, if I wanted a picture of a pig, I would type "pig clipart". Select your picture, copy and paste it to a word document, and print. Be mindful of the size, not making it too big or it will curl in the oven, but not too small or you can't see what it is.

Step 4: Coloring

Put your plastic shrink paper over your design. Using your black colored pencil, trace the outline and any other significant lines on the rough side of the shrink paper. This makes your jewelry stand out more. Now color in the rest of the traced pattern.

Step 5: Cut and Punch

Punch a hole right above where your design ends. Then, cut around both the hole punch, and picture, but not too close, otherwise it will tear your picture.

Step 6: Cooking

 Place in the oven at 325 degrees fahrenheit on a baking sheet with the colored side facing up. You can place multiple shrinky dinks on the baking sheet.  Watch them cook and shrink, as they will curl and uncurl only once. After they flatten, wait 30 seconds and pull them out. If they are curled when you take them out, push on the edges immediately and let them cool.

Step 7: Presto! Jewelry

After they are completely cooled, fold the string in half and push it through the hole, forming a loop. Take the two ends and thread them through the loop, pull tight, and knot. Presto!! Shrinky Dink Necklace.
