Step 1: wisecrack fortune eggs
Fortune cookies are always fun: the glib sayings, the dubious 'lucky' numbers. But what about when I'm not eating Chinese food or in the mood for a cookie after my meal? How about having a fortune inside of something other than a cookie, like eggs!
And, instead of fortunes maybe there could be terrible egg-puns, making you and your guests into wisecracks after dinner. Satisfy your craving for high cholesterol and terrible puns by hollowing out eggs, inserting a few clever egg-sayings and make your own wisecrack fortune eggs!
Enough talk, let's get cracking!
Step 2: tools + materials

To hollow eggs simply poke a small hole in each end of the egg with the sewing needle, making one opening slightly larger than the other.
Then insert the needle all the way into the egg and stir the insides to break up the yolk, this will make the egg easier to blow out.
Step 3: blow out eggs
Hold egg over cup or bowl with larger opening facing down.
Make a seal around the small opening of the egg with your mouth and start blowing into the egg. It will take some pressure to get the egg to come out from the shell, so be patient. If you're having trouble try reaming the openings with the needle and try again.
Step 4: rinse insides, let dry
After all eggs have been hollowed out rinse the insides under a thin stream of water, then leave to dry.
Step 5: bonus: make an omelette
BONUS: OMELETTE RECIPE
So, what are you going to do with all those eggs? While you're waiting for those shells to dry why not make yourself something to eat?!
If you're making a casserole for dinner you can use the eggs for that, or maybe you can make a tasty omelette. I chose the latter, because I love eggs and omelettes are a hard thing to pass up.
Here's a simple recipe for omelettes:
- 3 eggs
- fillings: any leftovers in the fridge
- cheese
- salt + pepper
Start by gently mixing eggs together (don't whip)
Preheat frying pan to a medium-high heat
Pour eggs into pan and let bottom and edges cook
When the top has almost no liquid left insert your fillings into one side of the omelette
With a spatula fold omelette over on top of fillings
Cook for until outside is golden brown
Serve immediately
Step 6: make egg puns
Time to make some classic egg puns to put inside our eggs.
Since eggs are quite voluminous inside, your verbiage doesn't need top be just one line; you can write a poem or a small message related to puns. Even the most verbose oration can fit inside this ova.
Be creative with your egg theme, your guests will eggspect as much once they realize the egg is a bearer of fortune.
I searched everywhere looking for some unique eggs puns that weren't cliché: turns out, it's impossible. I'm pretty sure there's no such thing as a new egg-related pun or eggspesssion. In my internet search I even found my way back to an Instructable forum topic (was hit #6 on Google for 'egg puns'!).
Here's the ones I used:
- “I have met a lot of hardboiled eggs in my time, but you're twenty minutes.” - Oscar Wilde
- omletting you know you've got egg on your face
- Egg puns: Albumening to talk to you about that, an oeuf is enough
- cracking egg puns, ovum my dead body
If you think you've got an egg pun that no one has heard before leave your pun in the comments below.
Step 7: roll puns, insert in egg
Once you've settled on your terrible puns it's time to roll them up and insert them into your hollowed-out eggs.
Roll those puns tight in order to fit, or maybe ream the opening to allow your pun to fit.
If you want a seamless look to your egg you can glue small shell fragments to hide the openings. This is optional.
Step 8: crack wise
Your wisecrack fortune eggs are complete, lay an egg on each persons plate after dinner and let them crack wise.
